Honkai: Star Rail 4.6: do you actually need Pearl
Honkai: Star Rail 4.6, "Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise," launched on 28 September 2026 and runs through 10 November. Today is 5 October, so the first half is still up. Pearl, a five-star Ice character on the Path of Elation, stays on her banner for the whole version, not just two weeks. Evanescia's rerun sits in the first half. Around 21 October, Mortenax Blade comes back for the second half. The story walks into the Life Sciences Institute inside Astropolis, after Nihilux showed herself as Aha. The patch also adds Astral Imagea and the Interastral Peace Gala combat show.
On a phone the easy mistake is to read "support for the whole version" and empty the stash on night one, while the old team still clears endgame. Pearl is not a key to the game. She is an expensive sustain slot for Elation. If you do not have that team, you can live through October without her and not miss a train.
What Pearl does, and who does not need her
Pearl is Ice, Path of Elation. In combat she spends a resource to offset damage for allies. That is a sustain support, not a main damage dealer you drop in alone. Her value shows up where the rest of the team is already playing Elation. If your working teams are still on older paths and they clear the hall without a fire, Pearl in October is a style purchase, not a hole being patched.
She actually fits if:
- the team already spins around Elation and the sustain in it is limping;
- you have been saving for this branch for several patches, and a banner that lasts the whole version gives you time instead of a two-week ultimatum;
- in the trial you understand when she spends the resource, rather than just watching the health bar sit still.
I would wait if:
- MoC and Pure Fiction still die to what you already have geared;
- the stash is smaller than one real attempt, and 21 October still brings Mortenax Blade, whom you may have wanted longer;
- you are back from a break and have not checked which paths you even own. Inventory first, banner second.
A full-version banner is convenience, not a duty. People mix up "she is available until 10 November" with "you must get her before 10 November." Those are different sentences.
The first half, and 21 October
Evanescia in the first half is a rerun, not a debut. If you do not need her, do not open that banner "while you are here." Each visit spends attention and sometimes a ten-pull you did not plan. Mortenax Blade is the second half, around 21 October. Until that date, do not split the box across three names. Pick one.
My order is this. Until 12 October I look only at Pearl, and only if an Elation team already exists. From 13 to 20 October I decide: either I finish her to a stop I wrote down, or I close the banner and wait for Mortenax. After 21 October I play his trial and I do not go back to Pearl on leftovers if the leftover is small. Two almost-characters by 10 November are worse than one finished character and a stash for 4.7.
I would not pull Pearl's signature cone, Colors for Tomorrow, on a thin stash. A cone without a team that knows how to use it does not fix the account. A character without the cone is still a character.
Story, and why it should not wait
The act goes into the institute inside Astropolis. As in other Star Rail patches, slices of rewards and access sit on the story. A phone is even kinder here than in action games: combat is turn-based, heat is lower, and you can stop on a dialogue choice. Use that. Play the story on the commute. Leave the halls for an evening at home, when you can think instead of tapping half-awake.
Do not replay old chapters to "refresh the lore" while 4.6 is still untouched. The log will stay. The version's event shop will not. Do what burns on 10 November first.
Astral Imagea and the co-op challenge are the patch's toy. Step in, look, claim one-time rewards if they do not demand a separate week of building. Do not build a second gameplay loop around it while the main team is still naked. On a phone, an extra system you open once every three days just takes up space in your head.
Trailblaze Power
A day's regen is not enough to gear a new character and also farm relics "just in case." Split it.
Before the banner is decided: trace materials and the weekly boss for the people you already take into the hall. Do not dump power into relics in bulk. It is easy to spend October in a cavern and walk out with DEF boots.
If Pearl did drop: level, traces to a usable line, and at least a four-star light cone you already own. Relics come when traces are no longer sitting at one. A support with raised traces and average relics holds a team. A support in a perfect rope with 1/1/1 traces holds nothing.
Do not stock a full Mortenax kit before he has dropped. The warehouse swells and you still cannot field him.
The phone
Star Rail lives on a phone better than open worlds do, but 4.6 still grows the client. Check free space after the update. Long ultimate animations drain a commute battery: turn down other characters' animations if the slider exists, and do not sit on max brightness. The fight does not get fairer. The phone gets cooler.
Turn-based controls forgive more than WuWa, but auto-battle in a new hall lies. Auto plays the old habit, not the new blessing. Do the first clear of updated content by hand. Leave auto for dailies you could clear with your eyes shut.
If the stash is empty
Play the story, claim logins, clear events that do not need the new character. Pearl "waits until the last day" only in the sense that the banner does not vanish early. Daily jade over that stretch will not build a guarantee from zero. Do not buy "a little jade" to finish a ten-pull. A ten-pull without a plan is paid randomness.
A pass is worth it only if you actually log in through 10 November. Buying it on 5 October and remembering it on 2 November means you paid for levels that expired.
The four-stars on this version's banners rotate as a pack. Do not plan "I will pick up one specific four-star on the way to Pearl." On the way you pick up whoever the game decides. If you need a four-star precisely, budget for the annoyance in advance, or do not budget for them at all.
If the account is new
4.6 is a late door into the Astropolis story. Do not try to understand Elation in the first hour. Ride the starter car, build one team that kills story enemies, and do not touch the banner until you have seen which paths the game hands you for free. Starter jade that flies into Pearl on install day does not become a team a month later. It becomes one support with nowhere to stand.
On the phone, turn on whatever skips animations you have already watched. Star Rail's story is long. Saving twenty seconds on each ultimate across an evening adds up to another session, not to "I ran out of time."
How you know October was not wasted
By 10 November the story act is done. Solo-clearable events are cleared. The team either has Pearl with living traces, or it does not, and the box was not zeroed on the night of 21 October. The hall is cleared on the floor where the old team still breathes. That is enough.
A full Elation roster in one patch from a phone is a trailer fantasy. One slot you understand, or an intact stash, is a normal result.
FAQ
How long does 4.6 run? 28 September through 10 November 2026. Use the timer in the client.
Is Pearl only in the first half? No. Her banner lasts the whole version. The first half is Evanescia's rerun. Mortenax Blade is around 21 October.
Do I have to pull her? No. She is an Elation support. If you do not have that team and endgame still clears, October works without her.
When do I spend power on relics? After traces. A support with traces at one is not saved by a good rope.
Is October 2026 a good time to start Star Rail? Yes, if you can read the story in pieces and you will not burn starter jade on night one. No, if you want finished endgame by the weekend. Halls do not open that way.
