Mobile Legends anniversary, October 2026: what is free

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is in its tenth-anniversary month in October 2026, and the event calendar is denser than a normal season. Today is 5 October. Layla's free Collector skin, "Prismatic Rhythm," opens on 9 October and runs through 19 November. You earn it with tasks over about two weeks of showing up, not by buying it on day one. Chou's "Starforge's Glory" can still be claimed through 18 October. The anniversary recall effect runs from 2 October through 25 October. Promo diamonds are set for 26 October through 4 November, and they make more sense saved for the November sale than spent the evening they arrive. MPL Philippines playoffs are 21–25 October at PhilSports Arena, with bids toward the M8 in Istanbul in January 2027.

It is easy to read that list as "everything free means October is profitable, so the shop is fine too." Free skins do not raise win rate. They take evenings. If the evening goes to the event and you queue ranked already angry and half asleep, the anniversary is hurting you.

What is actually free, and the order to take it

I would follow deadlines, not the preview.

Through 18 October. Chou. If the skin is not claimed, open the task chest and see how many matches are left. This date dies before Layla. Do not leave Chou for the last night. Anniversary matchmaking runs long, and "play N games" does not complete because you wanted it to.

2 through 25 October. The recall effect. Usually a login plus a few matches. Do it in the same session as Chou, not as a second marathon. If one evening can close both, do not stretch it across two.

9 October through 19 November. Layla, "Prismatic Rhythm." This is the main free item of the month, and it starts in a few days. The event is built around roughly fourteen days of tasks. Do not try to "finish it in one night" on 9 October if the tasks are daily logins. Also do not vanish for a week after it starts. A long event dies from a hole in the logins, not from difficulty.

26 October through 4 November. Promo diamonds. The announced ceiling is a few hundred if you clear the carnival. These are not shop diamonds you are obliged to dump into a random chest on the 26th. Hold them for the November sale. Writing down "do not spend before Double 11" is more useful than any emblem guide.

Small giveaways, like a random special skin for a simple match, are worth it only if that match was already on your schedule. Do not boot the game at 1 a.m. for a chest you will not open because the hero is not your role.

What the anniversary does not fix

A skin does not grant damage, crowd control, or vision. If you are stuck in Epic because you dive without an ultimate and without map information, Layla in a new dress loses the same way. I would keep one role and two heroes on it for October. The anniversary modes and the "3 lives" mini-game from 9 October through 19 November are a warm-up, not a ranked replacement. Play one game, take the reward, leave. The third game of "almost top of the mini-game" usually spends the focus you wanted for stars.

Draft in anniversary weeks is worse than usual. People test heroes under a new skin and break the comp. If you want stars rather than a screenshot, call your role before bans and do not lock a fourth marksman, even if the free paint is on that hero today. One normal comp without a skin beats four legendary skins with no comp.

Phone and session

MLBB is lighter than open worlds, but the October client with event hubs and login videos still heats up and eats storage. After you enter the anniversary hub, drop effects if teamfights lose frames. A lost fight because the game froze hurts more than flat shadows.

Do not leave screen recording on auto. People start capturing anniversary games "for the memory" and throttle at minute ten, which is when the Lord fight happens. The memory of the skin will stay. The Lord will not.

If you are on mobile data, do not start ranked on one bar on the night everyone logged in for Layla. Ping on an anniversary evening is worse than on a normal Tuesday. Event matches you can abandon can live on a bad network. Ranked cannot.

Diamonds I would not buy

Any pack that says "anniversary, only now, 10 years" and then randomizes the contents. Ten years is marketing on the price tag, not a luck multiplier. If you are going to spend, spend on a hero you already play and do not own, or on the monthly pass if you already log in every day through the end of its timer. Do not buy diamonds to roll a chest for a skin the calendar is about to hand out for tasks. Wait. Free Layla from 9 October is exactly that case.

Do not mix late-October promo diamonds with normal ones. Habit: until the shop has actually switched to the November sale, promo diamonds sit. Spending them on day one of the carnival, on a feeling, is how a free reward turns into "they got me again," when you got yourself.

Do not buy accounts "with the anniversary collection." The skin is tied to an account that is not yours until the email and the binding are yours. October has more of these offers than usual. That is not a discount. That is someone else's session.

Event plus rank when time is short

Four evenings a week, about forty minutes. That is a realistic October, not a twelve-hour one.

Evening one. The task with the nearest deadline. Until the 18th that is Chou, and the recall effect in the same sitting. One real match, not five warm-ups.

Evening two. From 9 October, Layla lives here. Do the day's slice of tasks and leave. Not "one more, maybe it drops."

Evening three. Ranked, two heroes, one role. Do not put a brand-new skin in the slot if you have not hit your last ten skillshots on it in practice. The skin does not replace the hit.

Evening four. Finish whatever expires this week, then stop. The anniversary mini-game only if the reward is for showing up, not for grinding a leaderboard.

During Philippines playoffs week, 21–25 October, ranked in Asian prime time will be meaner and smurfier than usual. If those specific stars do not matter, move rank to daytime or skip it and clear the event. Stars dropped on grand-final night do not look like "I watched MPL" in November.

If you came back for the free stuff

That is a fair reason to log in. It is a bad reason to stay on twelve new heroes. Log in, take what the calendar has not burned yet, play ten matches on your old hero, and only then open the shop. Role memory comes back faster than "the October meta." Meta without hands that remember spacing does not work, even on a free Collector skin.

Do not copy builds with level-60 emblems if yours are level 20. A copied build without emblem levels is a picture. Raise what already grows from the matches you are playing for the event anyway.

If the account is new

October 2026 is a loud start, but free heroes and one task skin teach more than the shop. Pick one lane. For most new players that is exp or gold, not jungle. Jungle on a phone means watching the map, and the anniversary UI is already shouting buttons. Two heroes, ten matches, then an event that asks for a specific role. If the event asks for a role you do not have, skip the reward. One lost ranked game for a chest costs more than the chest.

Set ping display and graphics before the first ranked game. People set ultra because it is an anniversary and then cannot dodge. A dodge at a stable 30 beats a dodge at 60 that falls to 20 in the fight.

What a normal end of October looks like

Chou is claimed if you made it before the 18th. Layla's slice is moving day by day, not abandoned on the 9th. Promo diamonds, if they dropped, are sitting until November. Ranked is not in a deep hole from late-night "skin games." The account is still the same two heroes you could hit with before the anniversary, maybe in new paint.

That is enough. A full set of free rewards with empty hands in draft is a bad October, even if the screenshots look good.
